Statute Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Statute ("Statute", "we", "us", or "our") handles information in the current release of the Statute mobile application (the "App").

Statute is a Pakistani legal reference mobile application. The current release is designed as an offline-first legal reference app. It includes a bundled legal database for the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, labelled as "Constitution of Pakistan 1973 — As modified up to 28 February 2012", and local app features such as search, bookmarks, notes, theme preferences, greeting preferences, pinned laws, and reading progress.

2. Current Release: No Account, No Backend, No AI

In the current release:

  • The App does not require users to create an account.
  • The App does not provide login or authentication.
  • The App does not use a backend server for user accounts or user content.
  • The App does not upload user documents.
  • The App does not provide AI-generated legal answers.
  • The App does not transmit your notes, bookmarks, reading progress, searches, or greeting preferences to us.
  • The App does not include third-party analytics or crash reporting SDKs.

If future versions add accounts, cloud sync, AI features, document upload, analytics, crash reporting, or other online services, this Privacy Policy will be updated before those features are made available.

3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores certain information locally on your device so the App can work properly and remember your preferences. This local information may include:

  • Bookmarked articles or entries
  • User-created notes
  • Note titles and note attachment references
  • Reading progress and last opened article or entry
  • Recent searches
  • Search filter preferences
  • Theme preferences
  • Greeting name, honorific, and greeting style
  • Pinned law/library preferences
  • Other local app settings

This information is stored on your device using local storage technologies such as MMKV and SQLite. We do not receive this local information unless you separately choose to send it to us, for example by contacting support and voluntarily sharing screenshots, exports, or details.

4. Bundled Legal Database

The App includes a bundled SQLite database containing legal reference content. In the current release, the available legal content is the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, based on the source edition labelled:

"The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan — As modified up to 28 February 2012 — National Assembly of Pakistan."

The database is copied to your device so the App can provide offline legal reference and search functionality. This bundled legal database is app content, not personal user data.

5. Information We Do Not Collect in the Current Release

In the current release, we do not collect:

  • Account registration details
  • Email addresses through the App
  • Phone numbers through the App
  • Passwords or authentication credentials
  • Uploaded documents
  • AI prompts or legal questions sent to a server
  • Device location
  • Contacts
  • Photos or media library data
  • Microphone data
  • Camera data
  • Payment information
  • Advertising identifiers for advertising
  • Analytics events through a third-party analytics SDK
  • Crash reports through a third-party crash reporting SDK

The App may still require standard platform-level technical permissions or network capability as part of the React Native/Expo runtime, store installation, or operating system behavior. The current release is not designed to collect personal data through those capabilities.

6. Support Communications

If you contact us by email or another external channel, we may receive the information you choose to provide, such as:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Message content
  • Screenshots or files you voluntarily attach
  • Device or app details you include for support

We use support communications only to respond to your request, troubleshoot issues, maintain records, and protect our rights or users where necessary.

7. How Local Data Is Used

Local data is used to:

  • Save and display your bookmarks
  • Save and display your notes
  • Restore your reading progress
  • Show recent searches
  • Remember your selected theme
  • Remember greeting and display preferences
  • Maintain pinned library items
  • Improve your offline reading and search experience on the same device

Local data is not used for advertising, profiling, resale, or third-party marketing.

8. Sharing of Information

Because the current release does not transmit App-created notes, bookmarks, reading progress, searches, or greeting preferences to our servers, we do not share that local App data with third parties.

If you contact us directly, we may share support communications only where reasonably necessary with service providers or professional advisers who help us operate, secure, or support the App, or where required by law.

We do not sell personal information.

9. Data Retention and Deletion

Local App data remains on your device until:

  • You delete individual notes, bookmarks, or settings inside the App, where such controls are available;
  • You clear the App's data through your device settings;
  • You uninstall the App; or
  • Your device operating system removes the data.

Because the current release does not create user accounts or store user data on our servers, there is no server-side account data for us to delete.

If you contact us for support, we may retain that communication for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain business records, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and protect our rights.

10. Security

The App uses local device storage for notes, bookmarks, preferences, and reading progress. You are responsible for protecting access to your device, including by using device passcodes, biometric locks, and operating system security features.

No method of electronic storage is completely secure. If your device is lost, compromised, shared, rooted, jailbroken, or accessed by another person, your local App data may be accessible.

11. Children

Statute is intended for legal reference and research use. It is not directed to children under 13 or to children under the minimum age required by applicable law.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in the current release.

12. Third-Party Platforms

The App is distributed through app stores such as Google Play and the Apple App Store. Those platforms may collect information under their own privacy policies, such as purchase, installation, device, diagnostics, or store account information.

Their practices are governed by their own policies and are not controlled by Statute.

13. Future Features

Future versions of Statute may add online features such as accounts, cloud sync, AI-assisted legal responses, document upload, analytics, crash reporting, subscriptions, or other services. If we add such features, we will update this Privacy Policy and any applicable store disclosures before those features are made available.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above indicates when this Privacy Policy was last revised.

If material changes are made, we may notify users through the App, store listing, website, or another reasonable method.
